New students encouraged to register for orientation

Incoming Lamar University freshmen can start their college careers off right by registering for one of seven upcoming New Student Orientation sessions.

Orientation is designed to ease the transition to college for first-time freshmen and incoming students with fewer than 18 hours of college credit. At orientation, students and their family members will meet college deans and current students, learn about student organizations and academic resources, and gather financial aid information.

Orientation sessions are scheduled for May 4, June 12, June 14, July 16, July 18, July 20 and July 31. Each orientation session is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. with most activities planned in the Setzer Student Center.

After being accepted for admission to Lamar University, incoming students should register for New Student Orientation online at Incoming students also should schedule an advising appointment with the Undergraduate Advising Center by calling (409) 880-8822 or emailing Orientation reservations will be confirmed after students have been advised.

Orientation fees are $50 for students and $25 for each accompanying guest (no fee for guests 12 and younger).

“Orientation teaches students how to be a Cardinal and how to be a part of this university,” said Ashley Spicer-Runnels, director of student development and leadership. “After attending orientation, students will be ready to come in on the first day of classes and seek out all the opportunities to better themselves that they’ll find here at Lamar.”
