LU contest seeks name for mobile recruiting center

Lamar University’s Office of Recruitment now has a Mobile GO Center to take resources for prospective students on the road. Help is needed to find the perfect name for this rolling representative for Lamar University.

A contest to name LU’s Mobile GO Center will run until 12 p.m. Tuesday, May 22. To enter, go to the Lamar University’s Mobile GO Center Facebook page (, like the page and post a suggested name. Entries also may be submitted via e-mail to

Entries are sought from current and prospective students, alumni, faculty and staff, and friends of Lamar University. LU recruitment staff members will review submissions and choose the winning entry.

The winner, who will receive an LU gift basket and bragging rights, will be recognized at the center’s first public event from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, May 23 in the parking lot of the Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center.

The Mobile GO Center is a 42-foot gooseneck trailer wrapped with images showcasing the opportunities available for students at Lamar University. Inside, the center includes 16 laptop computers with Internet access via satellite to allow students to fill out applications for admission and financial aid and to complete career exploration exercises. On May 23, students from a Beaumont middle school will complete a career exploration program in the center.

The center, which was obtained with a grant from the Texas Pioneer Foundation, will be available for activities at area high schools as well as parades, tailgating, college fairs and community events.
