High school students can preview college life at Open House on Feb. 25

High school students and college transfers will have an opportunity to learn about everything that Lamar University has to offer at a Spring Open House scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25.

An annual event, the Spring Open House is being expanded this year to give prospective students and their families more time to gather all the information they might need about Lamar University.

“With the extended day, future students will be able to find out about important aspects like academics and financial aid in the morning and still have time to meet current students and learn about clubs and organizations in the afternoon,” said Maggie Cano, director of recruitment.

The day will begin with check-in at 8:30 a.m. in the Montagne Center, followed by a welcome at 9 a.m. from Lamar University President James Simmons. Later that morning, future students can meet with deans and professors to learn more about academic programs and attend sessions on financial aid and how to prepare for college.

After enjoying lunch in the dining hall or one of the other campus dining facilities, guests can spend the afternoon meeting with representatives of campus clubs, organizations, service providers and the Lamar Honors Program. The Cardinal Village residence halls and Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center will be open for afternoon tours.

Those who have already decided to make Lamar University their college home will be able to meet with admissions counselors, register for summer orientation and apply for housing in the Cardinal Village residence halls during the Open House.

Open House participants can also enjoy complimentary tickets to a 7 p.m. Lady Cardinals basketball game in the Montagne Center against Sam Houston State University.
