“The Amazing Quilter” Diane Rose speaker for Gladys City Nights

Lamar University’s Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum is pleased to welcome Diane Rose, “The Diane Rose with quiltAmazing Quilter”, as guest speaker on Dec. 15 during the museum’s December Gladys City Nights event. The free event will begin at 6 p.m. with Rose speaking at 6:30 p.m. A reception will follow in the museum’s Log Cabin Saloon.

Rose lived most of her life visually impaired by glaucoma. Just four days before she was to undergo a cornea transplant, an accident caused her to become totally blind. She learned to quilt and, through quilting, has motivated others to achieve their true potential. She is a frequent motivational speaker with her own ministry, Rose of Sharon Ministries. Rose will share her inspirational story of how she learned to operate a sewing machine and complete quilts by touch with the aid of an assistant to help choose colors.

Rose has sold quilts to such personalities as country music legend Loretta Lynn and former President George W. Bush and has been featured on Texas County Reporter.

The Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum is located on the corner of University Drive and Cardinal Drive on the Lamar University campus. For more information, please call (409) 880-1750 or visit
