Gladys City seeks volunteers for “Holidaze!”

Individuals and groups interested in helping with holiday preparations at Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown, on the Lamar University campus, are encouraged to attend a volunteer orientation on Sunday, Nov. 27, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gladys City Visitors Center to learn more about how they can help.

“We have much to do to get Gladys City ready for our Christmas event,” said special projects coordinator Dorothy Henley. “This is a great opportunity for student groups, community organizations and families looking for a fun service project.”

Museum staff and volunteers will spend the week of November 28 through December 5 decorating both the interiors and exteriors of Gladys City’s 15 buildings each day from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Attendance at the orientation is encouraged, but not mandatory. Volunteers can come any day for any amount of time to help with decorations.

Volunteers are also needed to assist with activities during the museum’s HOLIDAZE! at Gladys City event on Saturday, Dec. 10, and Sunday, Dec. 11. Volunteers wanting to assist with the HOLIDAZE! event should call in advance to speak with the museum director.

Refreshments for volunteers will be provided each day, and anyone volunteering will receive free admission to the museum throughout December. Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown is located on Hwy. 69 at University Drive in Beaumont. For more information, please call (409) 835-0823 or contact the museum at
