Don S. Shaver Scholarship in Accounting established

The Lamar University Foundation has announced a new endowed scholarship for accounting majors. The Don S. Shaver Scholarship in Accounting will provide funds for students to further their studies in higher education. Keith Kebodeaux, friend and colleague of Shaver, established this scholarship to honor Shaver for his professional accomplishments and contributions to Lamar University.

Shaver graduated from Lamar in 1976 with a bachelor of business administration in accounting. He spent his time at Lamar as a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. After graduation, Shaver began working for Price Waterhouse in Houston. He received his certified public accountant licensure for the state of Texas in 1980 and returned to Beaumont to work for Albert A. Pollans & Company. The following year Shaver enthusiastically launched his own firm that grew immensely over the next 25 years. He started a new company, LD Services, LLC in 2007. Serving as chief financial officer, he provides administrative services to National Pump & Compressor, Ltd., Gulfco Industrial Equipment, LP, and GulfStar Rental Solutions, LP.

Shaver has shown dedicated support for Lamar University by working as a volunteer and serving on the Lamar University Alumni Association Board from 2001-2003. Today, he serves on the Lamar Accounting Department Advisory Board and in 2006 hosted A Dinner and Twelve Strangers event for accounting students to have the opportunity to learn more about the profession.

“We are very appreciative of these scholarship funds”, said Ann Watkins, chair of the department of accounting and business law. “Scholarships such as this help ensure that students have access to the highest quality education possible.”
