Types of Admission

Regular Admission You meet all university, departmental and language proficiency admission requirements.

Bridge Admission You meet all university and departmental admission requirements but have not entirely satisfied the language proficiency requirement. You will be enrolled in academic courses at Lamar University and in language courses at TIEP.

Conditional Admission (Undergraduate Students) You meet all university requirements except for language proficiency. You must enroll full-time in TIEP at Lamar. Upon completion of the advanced level English study, you will be eligible for admission to Lamar University. 

Conditional Admission (Graduate Students) Your department may offer you admission even though you have not yet satisfied the language proficiency requirement. As a conditionally admitted student, you are required to enroll full time in TIEP at Lamar. Upon completion of the advanced level English study, you will be eligible for admission to the Lamar University department that offered you admission status.

Language Institute Admission You require significant English language training that prevents your immediate enrollment at the post-secondary level. You may apply directly to TIEP at Lamar and will not be considered for Lamar University admission at that time.

Following the submission of an online application, you should submit the following:

  1. Official Transcripts
  2. Admissions Test Scores
  3. English Proficiency Scores
  4. Copy of Passport Biographical Pages
  5. Proof of Financial Resources

When applying within the United States, be sure to list all US institutions currently and/or previously attended, including language learning institutions, on the application as well as submit official transcripts, entrance exams, and English proficiency scores to the Office of Admissions. The following documentation should be forwarded to the International Student Services Office.

1.     Financial Statement/Affidavit of Support

As an international student, you must prove that you have the financial resources to attend Lamar University. As part of the application process, you must submit an original Financial Statement Form that asks for personal, family, and/or sponsor financial information and a bank verification of financial holdings.

2.     Copies of Immigration Documentation

  • Passport Biographical Pages
  • Visa
  • I-94 (Arrival/Departure) Card – front/back
  • All SEVIS Forms I-20 Received (Initial/current) – Original documents will be required upon registration.

3.     SEVIS Transfer-In Form

International students with F-1 or J-1 visas who have attended a school in the U.S. must make sure that this form is completed and submitted to the International Student Services Office at Lamar University before they will receive a transfer SEVIS I-20 or DS-2019 or enroll. A current form (one that gives information about the semester or quarter immediately before the student will transfer/enroll at Lamar University) is required. Copies of your current immigration documents (SEVIS I20(s)/DS2019, Passport, Biographical and Visa pages, and I-94 Card) must also be submitted by the student to our office. Completion of this side of the form authorizes your International Student Advisor at your school to verify the information the student has provided and to complete the reverse side of the form.

Transferring students should be advised to bring English translations of their course syllabi and the course descriptions for transfer courses.  The student should also be aware that they will have to petition the department for each course as to whether the transfer credits will be accepted as equivalent to the Lamar University requirement.
