The Reaud Honors College encourages inquisitive Honors students to turn their passions into projects through creative activity and research guided by faculty mentors, working closely with Honors faculty and with Lamar University’s Office of Undergraduate Research.

Unsure of your passion? As Reaud Honors students progress through their undergraduate careers, many of them discover their passions by asking themselves: Why did I choose my major? What do I want to learn more about? What problem do I want to solve?

While providing a greater depth of understanding in students’ chosen fields of study, undergraduate research and creative activity equip Reaud Honors students with skill sets that empower them to solve real-world problems, investigate career paths, develop meaningful mentoring relationships, and gain a competitive edge for industry and for postgraduate education. These skill sets include:

  • Public Speaking
  • Critical Thinking
Through its endowment, the Reaud Honors College helps remove financial constraints that stifle student curiosity so that creativity can flourish under research constraints that push students to answer important and interesting questions. The College provides opportunities for Reaud Honors undergraduate student presentations by participating in:

Honors conferences and Undergraduate Research conferences give Reaud Honors presenters forums to engage with like-minded peers, researchers, academicians, and other professionals who can help students cultivate and reach their goals. This social and intellectual exchange may spark and sustain Honors students’ excitement about their passion projects for years to come.

In the collaborative spaces provided by the Reaud Honors College and the Office of Undergraduate Research, Reaud Honors students can pursue their interests, gain new knowledge, and challenge themselves within their academic disciplines. Reaud Honors students gain experience in looking at problems from different angles, working in teams, and persevering through setbacks and obstacles.

By embarking on fact-finding explorations fueled by their passions and fields of study, Reaud Honors students give themselves the chance to prove they have what it takes to elevate scholarly knowledge and make a real-world impact.
