An active performer and recitalist, Katherine McBain has performed with various orchestras including the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Rochester Chamber Orchestra, Kalamazoo Symphony, Illinois Symphony, and the Round Top International Institute Festival Orchestra. She has taught Horn at the University level since 2005, having held posts at the University of Rochester, Nazareth College, Eastern Illinois University, and Stephen F. Austin State University. Currently, McBain teaches at Lamar University and the University of Texas at Tyler and she performs regularly with several local orchestras, including the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Texarkana Symphony Orchestra, Tyler Civic Chorale Orchestra, Longview Symphony Orchestra, and Shreveport Symphony Orchestra. With an interest in new solo repertoire for horn, McBain commissioned two new solo works, one of which, Mountain Sketches by Paul Johnston, won the International Horn Society Composition Contest in 2014. She was invited and performed both commissioned works at the International Horn Symposium in 2018. McBain earned both DMA and MM degrees in Performance and Literature of the Horn from the Eastman School of Music, and a BA in Music from the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music.
