Erin Murphy

Flutist Erin Kendall Murphy frequently performs with orchestras, in chamber music collaborations, and as a soloist throughout the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Murphy holds performance degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (DMA), Northwestern University (MM with honors), and the University of Michigan (BM, James B. Angell Scholar). In addition, she earned a performance certificate while studying in Kent, England at Trevor Wye’s international flute studio.

Dr. Murphy has performed as a concerto soloist with the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and also with the Lakeshore Rush and Mode ensembles (Chicago), Isthmus Chamber Orchestra (Wisconsin), Wingra Woodwind Quintet, and at the National Flute Association Conventions in New Orleans, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and San Diego.

In 2016, Dr. Murphy joined the faculty of Lamar University as the Instructor of Flute. Previously, Dr. Murphy taught as the Lecturer of Music – Flute at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and Adjunct Flute Instructor at the North Park and Maranatha Universities. She has guest lectured at the University of Northern Colorado, University of Utah, University of Missouri, Central Michigan University, and North Central Michigan College. Articles she has written have appeared in the Journal of the International Alliance for Women in Music, FQ Plus (National Flute Association’s online magazine) and Pipeline, the Chicago Flute Club’s quarterly publication.

Dr. Murphy transcribed 17 pieces from Marin Marais’ Suitte d’un goût étranger for flute and keyboard. She collaborated with pianist Dr. Kirstin Ihde on a recording of these intriguing French baroque character pieces, which was released in April 2014.

Dr. Murphy is also a member of the Chicago Flute Club, National Flute Association, International Alliance for Women in Music, and the Musicians Club of Women.
