The Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music inspires and develops students in pursuit of professional careers in music. Embracing a proven curriculum, opportunities for cross disciplinary collaboration, and close mentorship with our renowned music faculty, our undergraduate and graduate student body is empowered to thrive and become leaders in the field of music and the communities they serve.
The department also provides students opportunities to perform in multiple instrumental and vocal ensembles, regardless of their major field of study. We full immerse students in the cultural study of music, its composition, performance techniques, education, history, and more.
At Lamar University you can sing in a chorus, go to a live performance, compose an original piece, and enjoy music of various genres and play your instruments, all while refining your natural gifts and talents.

Founded in 1924, the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) is an organization of schools, conservatories, colleges, and universities with over 600 accredited institutional members. It establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials for music and music-related disciplines, and provides assistance to institutions and individuals engaged in artistic, scholarly, educational, and other music-related endeavors.
