Administrative Associate Senior, Delores Black, began her career as secretary to the Department of Music in 1975 and served continually for 42 years. In 2017, Ms. Black was transferred from music to the College of Fine Arts and Communication.

Ms. Black holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education, and is a proud alumna of Lamar University. Always active in choral activities, Ms. Black appeared in many choirs, musical theatre and operatic productions at Lamar University, with Beaumont Civic Opera and with the Beaumont Little Theatre. Ms. Black sings at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, has been an officer and member of the Beaumont Interfaith Choral Society since 1977 and sings with and is assistant to the director for the Symphony of Southeast Texas chorus.

Honors include being named as one of the first recipients of the President’s Staff Award in 1979; the President’s Award in 1990-1991; the Distinguished Staff Award in 1997-1998; the Southeast Texas Arts Council Outstanding Achievement by a Volunteer in Music award in 2000 and Lamar University Student Organization’s Advisor of the Year award in 2006. Ms. Black was recently named the TSUS Staff Excellence Award Nominee for 2017, an award chosen from nominees from each of the eight members of the system, which will be announced in November 2017.

She served as Chapter Advisor for Delta Omicron from 1977 to 2006.
