Visiting scholar Emily Guo

For the 2014 academic year, Emily Guo, associate professor of English at Liaoning Normal University in Dalian, China, is a visiting scholar to our department. She is interested in applied research and practices in teaching English to deaf children in China.

Jean Andrews, interim chair of the Department of Deaf Studies & Deaf Education, published High Tides, Low Tides, a biographical tale about Leroy Colombo, a deaf lifeguard in Galveston in the early and mid 20th century.

Francois Grosjean interview

Lamar University's deaf studies and deaf education doctoral students had an extraordinary opportunity to interview Francois Grosjean, a professor emeritus and former director of the Language and Speech Processing Laboratory at the University of Neuchatel in Switzerland.

Grosjean has published extensively in the areas of psycholinguistics, biculturalism, applied linguistics and natural language processing. He was gracious with his time and expertise in providing answers to students' questions. With his permission, we have published the interview below.
