Internship for Credit Program

An internship with an industry organization will help prepare you for a successful career in communication. During your internship, you will practice what you have learned in the classroom, network with future colleagues, and immerse yourself in the communication industry. Students are strongly encouraged to supplement traditional classroom experience with relevant on-the-job training in their area of study.

The Department of Communication offers an internship for credit program, where juniors and seniors receive degree credit and experience in paid or unpaid communication positions. An internship for credit involves enrolling in and paying for college credit. This includes tuition and all associated fees based on three credit hours.

To earn credits for an internship, students must submit a time/assignment log, keep a journal, and create a professional-quality portfolio. Students assume an internship position at a professional organization working to receive course credit. Some of the organizations for which our students have interned include:

  • ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, and PBS TV affiliates
  • Art Museum of Southeast Texas
  • Lamar University Office of Marketing
  • Lamar University Office of Public Relations
  • Clear Channel radio stations
  • The Beaumont Enterprise
  • Entergy
  • The Examiner
  • Port Arthur News
  • Memorial Hermann Hospital
  • Walt Disney
