Pocket Toons by Katherine Correa

"Pocket Toons is an exploration into using trading cards as a medium to present short graphic narratives. Presented in this exhibition are a series of cards followings the intertwined stories of four character archetypes: the fallen king, the evil second in command, the wise teacher, and the rising heir. Each trading card introduces a character through a portrait and elaborates on their story through a one-age comic that is accessed via a QR code on the back of the card. 

Pocket Toons was inspired by an interest to pursue the creation of graphic narratives while obtaining a career after graduation. The creation of graphic narratives is often a time-consuming task requiring hours of dedication from the artists to complete.If shortened to reduce workload, the experience of reading a graphic narrative becomes less engaging. Pocket Toons explores a solution towards creating short engaging graphic narratives that can be collected, traded, and saved on personal devices."
