HONORS COUNCIL MINUTES:   November 26, 2018

PRESENT:  Kevin Dodson, Rebekah Maxwell, Nicki Michalski, Clare Burns, Tilisa Thibodeaux, Kathy Fraccastoro, Andrea Karlin, Rebecca Boone, Gina Hale, Irene Shim, Michael Saar, and Xenia Federchenko.

Meeting was called to order at 3:34pm by Dr. Kevin Dodson.

DEAN’S REPORT:

Dr. Dodson reported Daniel Pemberton had been selected for a second place award at the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) Conference earlier in the month.

There is a Reaud Honors College student team being formed for Texas Model UN to be held in February 2019.

The College will fund tickets to on-campus theater and dance performances for students. This will allow one student and their guest to attend campus and cultural events at no charge.

OLD BUSINESS:

Dr. Tilisa Thibodeaux gave a report on Digital Literacy and the ePortfolio program. Goals will be updated after the NCHC conference and discussions had there. This could include an advisory council and possibly making the ePortfolios a capstone project for students. Dr. Thibodeaux is collaborating with the Library to create digital minute videos as a student resource. For fall 2018, 81 students have submitted their links.

Ms. Rebekah Maxwell gave an update on Partners in the Parks to Big Bend which is being co-hosted by the Reaud Honors College and the Honors Program at Tyler Junior College. There are nine students registered at this point and will take place during winter break.

NEW BUSINESS:

SEP Honors College Work Group is working as an Admissions Subcommittee.

The need for non-course credit options for athletics and band students was discussed. If there is a course those students have to take it was suggested they write a paper/reflection for that course in order for it to count as honors credit.

Meeting adjourned at 4:20pm.
