HONORS COUNCIL MINUTES:   January 22, 2018

PRESENT:  Kevin Dodson, Rebekah Maxwell, Kumer Das, Brittany Crossley, Larry Allen, Nicki Michalski, Anna Christensen, Clare Burns, Tilisa Thibodeaux, Randy Yoder, Gina Hale, Mike Matthis, Andrea Karlin and Xenia Federchenko.

Meeting was called to order at 3:30pm by Dr. Kevin Dodson.

DEAN’S REPORT:

Dr. Dodson introduced the new Honors College Graduation Counselor, Mr. Andrew Strange, to the Honors Council.  Andrew started his position with the college on November 6, 2017.

We will be co-hosting Partners in the Park with Tyler Junior College.  It will be held at Big Bend National Park in December 2018.

The Alumni Advisory Board will be meeting June 2, 2018.  The focus of the meeting will be Structured Mentoring.

OLD BUSINESS:

October 23, 2017 minutes were reviewed and upon motion by Larry Allen, seconded by Kumer Das, the minutes were approved.

Tilisa Thibodeaux reported that 77 students have submitted links for the ePortfolios.

We would like to have Summer Reading set-up by May.

NEW BUSINESS:

Dr. Dodson discussed starting a tutorial program for Honors students and asked for input from the council.

We are going to start working with the UAC in trying to get mid-semester progress reports for students.

Second Annual Faculty Retreat will be held Friday, May 11^th.
