HONORS COUNCIL MINUTES:   September 26, 2016

PRESENT:  Kevin Dodson, Rebekah Maxwell, Kumer Das, Jeff Palis, Larry Allen, Nicki Michalski, Michael Saar, Ana Christensen, Randy Yoder, Gina Hale, Mike Matthis, and Andrea Karlin.

Meeting was called to order at 3:35pm by Dr. Kevin Dodson.

DEAN’S REPORT:

Dr. Dodson reviewed enrollment numbers and noted that the numbers are slightly down due to our increased gpa.  The strategy for boosting numbers includes talking to the Undergraduate Advising Center and encouraging them to identify students who have done well in their first semester and send them to talk to us.  Dr. Dodson is also working on articulation agreements with several 2-year colleges so we can accept students from these colleges who have taken honors courses.

We are hosting the Great Plains Honors Council conference in 2017 and we most likely will need honors council members to judge posters.

BUSINESS:

March 28, 2016 minutes were reviewed and upon motion by Kumer Das, seconded by Andrea Karlin, the minutes were approved.

We still need volunteers for the 2016 Summer Reading Club.  We may also want to look at having the summer read at a different day/time.

Dr. Dodson laid out issues to be discussed at upcoming meetings which include the new SAT scoring, honors graduates as returning students who want to get honors graduate status on second degree, block scheduling and weekly student meetings (Honors FIGs/Learning Community), and the possibility of a Senior Activity (Thesis, Project, Capstone course).
