HONORS COUNCIL MINUTES:   February 29, 2016

PRESENT:  Kevin Dodson, Rebekah Maxwell, Jeff Palis, Larry Allen, Nicki Michalski, Ana Christensen, Randy Yoder, Donna Wilsker, Andrea Karlin, and Monica Harn.

Meeting was called to order at 4:05pm by Dr. Kevin Dodson.

DEANS REPORT:

The Honors College is sending 4 students to the National political Conventions, two will be attending the Democratic and two will attend the Republican convention.  This will be funded by the McMaster.

We have hired two new student assistants.  They will replace our student assistant who graduated in December 2015 and one who is graduating in May.

BUSINESS:

January 25, 2016 minutes were reviewed.  Upon motion by Larry Allen, the minutes were approved.

Council was asked to start thinking about ideas for 2016 Summer Reading Club.  We have three volunteers at this time but need more.  Summer Read will count for 1 non-course credit. 

Guidelines for non-course credit were presented.  Amended guidelines will be presented at the next meeting for approval.

Dr. Dodson informed council that the May Mini Study Abroad trip to Belize did not make, mostly in part due to timing.  The same course will run in the fall with a January trip. 

Dr. Dodson and Dr. Palis proposed to set up a different study abroad program every year running in the fall and the trip would be during winter break.  Council voted on the proposal and upon motion by Dr. Andrea Karlin and seconded by Dr. Ana Christensen, the proposal was approved.
