GRADUATE COUNCIL MINUTES

The Graduate Council of Lamar University met in the Wimberly Bldg., conference area, room 219 at 1:30 p.m.  Dr. William Harn, Dean of Graduate Studies, presided.  Dr. Dorothy Sisk, Dr. Max Loges, Dr. Nick Rissman, Dr. Jimmy Moss, Dr. Ashwini Kucknoor, and Dr. Tracy Benson attended.  Also present were Carmen Breaux, Coordinator of Graduate Studies, as Ex Officio and Ms. Niki Contreras, Editor for the College of Graduate Studies.

MINUTES:

Minutes of the February (#433) meeting were reviewed by the Graduate Council.  Dr.  Kucknoor motioned to approve the documents, Dr. Rissman seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

NEW BUSINESS: 

College of Graduate Studies

Ms. Contreras, Editor for the College of Graduate Studies, attended the meeting to propose to the Graduate Council revisions to the Theses and Dissertation Guidelines that the College currently has in place.   The Graduate Council reviewed the proposed changes, Dr. Sisk motioned to approve the changes, Dr. Rissman seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

COURSE ADDITIONS:

College of Engineering

Civil-Course Addition, CVEN 5309 (Civil Engineering Fundamentals) was submitted by the Department of Civil Engineering.  Dr. Rissman motioned to approve, Dr. Kucknoor seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Civil-Course Addition, CVEN 5370 (GIS Applications in Engineering) was submitted by the Department of Civil Engineering.  After the Graduate Council carefully reviewed the documents, there were several issues regarding the syllabus that the department needed to address.  The course addition was not approved by the Council at this time.  The department will need to re-submit the documents to the next meeting after corrections are made.

Conclusion:

The next meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in the Wimberly Bldg., Room 219.
