GRADUATE COUNCIL MINUTES

January 10, 2017

The Graduate Council of Lamar University met in the Wimberly Bldg., conference area, room 219 at 1:30 p.m.  Dr. William Harn, Dean of Graduate Studies, presided.  Dr. Ashwini Kucknoor, Dr. Max Loges, Dr. Tracy Benson, and Dr. Dorothy Sisk attended. 

MINUTES:

Minutes of the November 16, 2016 (#430) meeting were reviewed by the Graduate Council.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve the document, Dr. Kucknoor seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

NEW BUSINESS: 

College of Education

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences submitted a proposal for a new online degree in Nutrition that will complement and enhance the current Master’s degree offerings that the department has in place.  Dr. Amy Shows submitted the course additions for the new degree plan in the meeting on November 16, 2016.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve the proposal, Dr. Kucknoor seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

The Department of Kinesiology proposed changes to their program entry guidelines.   Candidates must meet the admission formula requirement: (GPA * 50) + (GRE) = 428 or greater, and a verbal score of 146 or greater on the GRE.  Candidates must also have a 2.5 or greater GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 2.75 GPA in the last 60 hours of their undergraduate degree.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve the document, Dr. Loges seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

 

College of Fine Arts and Communication

Tabled Item for Speech and Hearing Department.  Further research is required before a decision can be made on this submission.  This item will be resubmitted at a later date when the research is complete.

Conclusion:

The next meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in the Wimberly Bldg., Room 219.
