GRADUATE COUNCIL MINUTES

September 10, 2015

The Graduate Council of Lamar University met in Room 219, Wimberly Bldg., at 2:00 p.m. 

Dr. William Harn, Dean of Graduate Studies, presided.  Dr. Dorothy Sisk, Dr. Jimmy Moss, Dr. Maurice (Nick) Rissman, Dr. Ashwini Kucknoor, Dr. Jeffrey Forret, and Dr. Jenny Zhou (for Dr. Fan) attended.  Also present was Carmen Breaux, Coordinator of Graduate Studies, Dr. Reza Barzegaran, Dr. Brian Craig, Dr. Victor Zaloom, and Dr. Srinivas Palanki.

MINUTES:

Minutes of the May 13, 2015 meeting were reviewed by the Council.  Dr. Moss motioned to approve, Dr. Rissman seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

NEW BUSINESS: 

College of Engineering- Electrical

Dr. Barzegaran from the department of Electrical Engineering attended the Graduate Council meeting and submitted the new Electrical Certification proposal.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Rissman seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

College of Engineering-Industrial – Proposal for New Degree Port Terminal Management

Dr. Brian Craig attended the Graduate Council meeting and submitted a new degree proposal for a Masters in Port and Terminal Management to the Graduate Council.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Moss seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

College of Engineering-Industrial -Course Additions

Course additions INEN5302, INEN5304, INEN5306, INEN5307, INEN5308, INEN5309, and INEN5310 were submitted by the Department of Industrial Engineering.   Dr. Moss motioned to approve, Dr. Rissman seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

College of Fine Arts and Communications-Course Deletion

Course deletion SPHS5308 was submitted by the Department of Speech and Hearing.  Dr. Rissman motioned to approve, Dr. Sisk seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

College of Engineering – Changes to Doctor of Engineering Program

Dr. Palanki and Dr. Zaloom attended the Graduate Council meeting on behalf of the College of Engineering Doctoral programs.  A memo was submitted concerning changes to the Doctor

of Engineering program to the Graduate Council.  Dr. Rissman motioned to approve, Dr. Forret seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

College of Business – Update of dual degree plan for the MBA/ Master of Science in Nursing Administration

The memo submitted by the Business Department concerning the MBA/Master of Science in Nursing Administration dual Masters’ degree reviewed by the Graduate Council.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Zhou seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

College of Arts and Sciences – Proposal for an Accelerated Non-thesis BS/MS Program in Biology

A proposal to align the existing undergraduate degrees in Biology and add a fast track to a Masters’ degree was submitted to the Graduate Council.  Dr. Kucknoor provided clarification to the Council.  Dr. Forret motioned to approve, and Dr. Rissman seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

The next meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wimberly Bldg., Room 219.
