GRADUATE COUNCIL MINUTES

The Graduate Council of Lamar University met in Room 219, Wimberly Bldg., at 2:00 p.m. 

Dr. William Harn, Dean of Graduate Studies, presided.  Drs. Sisk, Moss, and Loges attended.  Also present was Carmen Breaux, Coordinator of Graduate Studies and Drs. Praphul Joshi and Douglas Boatwright,  Department of Health and Kinesiology.

MINUTES:

Minutes of the February 18, 2015 meeting were reviewed by the Council.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Moss seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

NEW BUSINESS: 

Proposal for New Online Master’s Degree in Public Health/Dept. of Health & Kinesiology

Dr. Praphul Joshi presented to the Council a new online master’s degree proposal for the Master of Public Health.  The new master’s degree will provide knowledge in the program’s area of interest which includes rural delivery systems, health disparities, chronic disease prevention and environmental health.

The Graduate Council carefully reviewed the proposal submitted by the Health & Kinesiology Department.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Moss seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved the proposal.  

Course Additions/Dept. of Health & Kinesiology

The Council unanimously approved the following course additions pending corrections to course numbers.  Corrections have been made as requested by the Graduate Council:  HLTH 5190, HLTH 5191, HLTH 5192, HLTH 5303, HLTH 5304, HLTH 5308, HLTH 5309, HLTH 5310, HLTH 5313, HLTH 5314, HLTH 5315, HLTH 5316, HLTH 5320, HLTH 5323, HLTH 5337, HLTH 5344, HLTH 5372, HLTH 5380, and HLTH 5392.   Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Moss seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Course Addition/Dept. of Educational Leadership/Doctoral Studies

Course addition EDUD 6169 was submitted by the Educational Leadership Department to the Graduate Council.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Loges seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Course Addition/Dept. of Chemical Engineering Department

Course addition CHEN 6333 was submitted by the Chemical Engineering Dept. to the Graduate Council.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Loges seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Course Additions/Dept. of Electrical Engineering

Course additions ELEN 5355, ELEN 5356, and ELEN 5357 were submitted by the Dept. of Electrical Engineering to the Graduate Council.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Moss seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Course Addition/Dept. of Marketing & Management

Course addition MKTG 5300 was submitted by the Dept. of Marketing & Management to the Graduate Council.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Loges seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Course Addition/Dept. of Nursing

Course addition MSNE 5350 was submitted by the Dept. of Nursing to the Graduate Council.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Moss seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

Course Deletion-Addition/Dept. of English & Modern Languages

Course deletion SPAN 5310 Hispanic Film Studies, and course addition SPAN 5310 Acquisition of Spanish as a Second Language and Methods were submitted by the Dept. of English & Modern Languages to the Graduate Council.  Dr. Sisk motioned to approve, Dr. Moss seconded the motion, and the Council unanimously approved.

The next meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wimberly Bldg., Room 219.
