TSUS Regents' Student Scholar Program

GUIDELINES

The following annual schedule guidelines will govern the announcement, review, and recommendation process for the Regents’ Student Scholar program. Component institutions will identify specific procedures as needed to meet the deadlines included here. Presidents at Component institutions submit recommendations to the Chancellor; however, the selection of the Regents’ Student Scholar is at the discretion of the Chancellor and Board of Regents.

  • Announcement of the Regents’ Student Scholar program and acceptance of applications will be made no later than February 10 via electronic and print channels.
  • Completed Regents’ Student Scholar application packet, including required attachments, must be submitted to the Dean of the student’s College by Friday, April 1. Using a selection process to be determined by the Dean, each College will select and advance one or two nominees to the Office of the President by Monday, April 11. After consultation with the Provost and Senior Associate Provost, the President will select and forward one nominee to the TSUS Chancellor for review by May 1, 2016.
  • Upon recommendation of the Chancellor, the Texas State University System Board of Regents will determine the recipient(s) of the Texas State University System Regents’ Student Scholar honor, if any. Announcement of student recipient(s) will be made at the regularly scheduled November Board Meeting of the TSUS Board of Regents.
  • Recipient(s) will receive a proclamation from the Board of Regents, a commemorative medallion reflecting selection as a Regents’ Student Scholar, waiver of state and local tuition for the following long semester at the Component institution, and a cash scholarship from the Texas State University System Foundation payable to the Component institution for use by the student toward fees, textbooks, and other educational expenses, including but not limited to lodging, dining, and parking. The Chancellor and the Executive Director of the Foundation will determine in advance the amount of the scholarship.
