The Department of Art & Media presents From Harlem Renaissance Scholarship to Community Engagement Through the Arts: Blending Academic and Museum Practice by guest lecturer Caroline Goeser, W.T. and Louise J. Moran Chair of the Department of Learning and Interpretation at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. Dr. Goeser's lecture will include topics such as what are the commonalities between academic and museum practice and how can art-historical research inform community engagement through the arts?

Dr. Goeser uses her experience as a scholar and a museum leader to draw connections between teaching and research related to Harlem Renaissance visual culture and her emphasis at the Museum of Fine Arts on audience building and service to diverse communities. She will also discuss how object-based teaching, learning, and research can forge closer partnerships between universities and museums.

A reception will precede the lecture at 5:30pm, with the lecture beginning at 6:00pm.
