Stand and Deliver, a 1988 American film based on the true story of Jaime Escalante, a James A. Garfield High School math teacher. Starring Edward James Olmos and Lou Diamond Phillips, this film depicts the struggles and determination of Escalante as he seeks to change the school’s culture and help his mostly Mexican-American students excel, ultimately setting a goal of having them take AP Calculus by their senior year.
