Alicia Prieto Langarica headshot, wearing brown sweater and maroon scarfLU STEM Students of Color Alliance welcomes Dr. Alicia Prieto Langarica, associate professor of mathematics at Youngstown State University.  Dr. Langarica will present What is Undergraduate Research in Math and who gets to do it?

Students may have heard about Research in Mathematics but many times this seems like a foreign, abstract concept, or something only a few can do. In this talk many different examples of problems in applied (and some pure) mathematics will be discussed. Dr. Langarica will talk about the students involved in the project, how they got involved in mathematics research and what resulted from this work. There will also be an open discussion on how to get involved in research for those students interested in math.

Refreshments will be served.
