Covering a vast expanse of territory and encompassing an array of ancient and living cultural practices, the art of India has long captured the imagination of the world. Likewise, aspects of Hindu cosmology and health practices such as yoga inform not only contemporary spiritual exploration but also investigations as diverse as astrophysics, consciousness raising and healing. This interdisciplinary talk explores sensuality, spirituality and yoga in Indian art and considers the ways in which these representations inform ideas about the integrated mind, body and cosmos in pan-Indian visual culture and beyond.

Dr. Anjali Kanojia, India studies director and instructional assistant professor, Department of Modern and Classical Languages, University of Houston and Dr. Stephanie Chadwick, assistant professor, art history, Department of Art, Lamar University will be the featured guests.

A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Dishman Art Museum.
