Oskar Films presents BLACKSMITH. Rob Flurry is an artisan at work. The debut short documentary from Frank DiCesare.

Blacksmith is the debut short documentary film from producer/director Frank DiCesare. This 15-minute film focuses on the work of Rob Flurry, the resident blacksmith at the Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum on the campus of Lamar University. Produced in conjunction with the Lamar University Communication Department, Blacksmith showcases Flurry's old-school, blade-smithing methods, which are a sharp contrast to the blacksmithing methods shown on television shows today like Forged in Fire. Flurry once said that if a blacksmith from the late 19th century were to appear in his forge, he would feel right at home.

Blacksmith is shot in the traditional poetic documentary style - the action is put to music with no dialogue. This movie will be shown free of charge.

Also slated to be shown is a brief, 4-minute interview with Rob Flurry titled, Fire and Steel. In this piece, also produced in conjunction with Lamar University's Communication Department, Flurry talks about his 40-year journey as a blacksmith, what the work means to him and the future of blacksmithing in America. Fire and Steel will be shown directly after Blacksmith and is also free of charge.

Sponsored by the Department of Communication.
