Lamar University’s A Cappella Choir and Grand Chorus, both under the direction of James Han, join the Symphony of Southeast Texas in a concert title "Russian Nights" at the Julie Rogers Theatre. “Russian Nights” will open with the “Festive Overture” by Dmitri Shostakovich and its fullness of fire and brilliance.

Guest pianist Sean Chen will dazzle the audience with his virtuosic playing of Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C major. Chen won the Crystal Award at the 14th Annual Van Cliburn Piano Competition in 2013, and has been hailed as a “charismatic rising star with an exceptional ability to connect with an audience combined with an easy virtuosity.”

The last piece of the evening closes out the season in spectacular fashion with the “Polovetsian Dances” of Aleksandr Borodin and its recognizable melodies and themes. Read more...
