Message to International Engineering Students

July 15th Update

Dear Current and Future Lamar University, College of Engineering International Students,

On July 14th, President Trump’s Administration rescinded the July 6th rule that would have required international students to transfer or leave the country if their schools held classes entirely online because of the coronavirus pandemic.

What this means for international students in/joining the Lamar University, College of Engineering (LUCOE):

  •  The LUCOE will be offering in-person, hybrid and online course options for our international students as we do for all our students. Students may consult the Lamar University’s Office of Admissions, COVID-19 Admissions Changes and Office of International Education and Services websites for the latest information and/or requests for information.
  • The LUCOE is committed to providing each of you the highest quality education while following all CDC, State of Texas and local requirements to keep our entire Lamar University family safe and healthy. Please see the LU-Coronavirus website for the most up-to-date information.
  • For Current/Continuing International Students in Lamar University’s College of Engineering
  • You will be able to continue your coursework through a combination of in-person, hybrid and online course options, including fully online if you prefer, based on online option availability.
  • You will be able to continue your thesis and dissertation research work.
  • For New Students Planning on Attending Lamar University This Fall
    • For those students who have received admission to Lamar University’s, College of Engineering, their F-1 visa and can safely travel to the US, please feel free to safely travel to the US and join us at Lamar University, where you will be able to begin your coursework right away through a combination of in-person, hybrid and online course options.
    • For those students who are admitted to Lamar University’s, College of Engineering, but are unable to travel to the US, the LUCOE will provide you the ability to remotely start your degree from your home country via our online course options. You will still be eligible for our $1,000 scholarship that makes you eligible for the out-of-state tuition waiver! Dear Current and Future Lamar University, College of Engineering International Students,

Recently, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) within U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued new guidance that prohibits international students from returning to or remaining in the U.S. this fall if the universities they attend are all online.
