M.Ed. Special Education Educational Diagnostician Application Letter

Applying to the special education programs in the Department of Teacher Education at Lamar University is a two-step process.

Step 1

You have already applied to the College of Education and Human Development (graduate studies) through ApplyTexas.org.

Step 2

Now you must submit an application to the Teacher Education Department for review. It is important that you enter your Lamar ID number correctly on the department application. Your Lamar ID is an eight-digit number preceded by L and can be found in an e-mailed letter from LU that you should have already received.

*If you enter your ApplyTexas 10-digit login ID or any other ID in this field, processing of your application will be delayed.

Please use the following URL to complete and submit the department/program application.

  • A reference form will be emailed to the principal you list on the department application.
  • Your department application and the reference form from your campus principal must be submitted no later than 9 p.m. (CST) on the ApplyTexas deadline listed on the Calendar of Critical Dates to be considered for enrollment in the term in which you have applied.

We encourage you to submit your department application early to avoid any enrollment delays.

Admission to the Department of Teacher Education requires:

  • A minimum of two years of creditable experience as a classroom teacher and current employment at a Texas Education Agency approved public or private pre-K - 12 campus
  • If you will be seeking educational diagnostician certification in Texas, you must also have a current Texas Educator Certificate and maintain employment on a TEA or TEPSAC accredited campus
  • When accepted, you will sign a document acknowledging that you meet these criteria

*Out-of-state and international students do not qualify for this program. The Special Education Generalist does allow admission of out-of-state or international students. The Special Education Generalist does not lead to initial teacher certification in special education.
