Additional Fees

On-site Face-to-face field observation fee

On December 27, 2016 new requirements regarding educator preparation programs were approved and published in the Texas Administrative Code (TAC). New language regarding field observations were included in the new TAC. Specifically, Title 19 Part 7 Chapter 228 RULE §228.35 requires educator preparation programs to now conduct at least one of the field observations on-campus face-to-face for principal, superintendent, and school counselor certification.  Beginning summer 2017, a fee of $500.00 will be included in the total tuition for those students enrolled in programs impacted by the new TAC changes.

*This fee only applies to those students seeking Texas certification.

TK20 Requirement

As part of your Lamar University program, you will be required to purchase Tk20, the official e-portfolio for the College of Education and Human Development.

Lamar University has implemented the use of Tk20, a comprehensive assessment system to assist with program improvement and accreditation. TK20 is the official electronic portfolio software of Lamar University College of Education and Human Development. Program required key assessments, projects, work samples, applications for field experience, practicum logs, professional testing and certification recommendations will be collected, processed, or archived through the TK20 secure portal.

It is the responsibility of each student pursuing any degree or certification as an educator to purchase an account to access and use TK20. The one-time account activation fee of approximately $110 is considered a professional expense incurred as a part of an educator preparation program. The user account may be utilized for seven years from the activation date.

You may purchase the program from a link provided on the system’s website or as you would a book from the campus bookstore and should be purchased by Week 3 of your first course, EDLD 5311. Note that while the price may be higher at the bookstore, this option will allow for requisite compensation from your financial aid if you are eligible. Information regarding Tk20 is available at the Department of Education’s website:
