The Lavender Awards
The Office of Global Diversity and Inclusive Excellence together with the LGBTQ+ Programming and Initiatives Committee celebrates LGBTQ+ graduation candidates at Lamar University and honors students with the prestigious Lavender Awards for Academic Achievement, Leadership, and Service.
Lavender Academic Achievement Award
- Be an undergraduate or graduate LU student
- Be currently enrolled full- or part-time
- Be in good academic standing
- Demonstrate scholarly excellence in the field of queer studies, women/gender /sexuality studies, and/or LGBTQ+ studies
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 with Lamar University
Lavender Leadership Award
- Be an undergraduate or graduate LU student
- Be currently enrolled full- or part-time
- Be in good academic standing
- Demonstrate extraordinary leadership benefiting the LGBTQ+ community
Lavender Service Award
- Be an undergraduate or graduate LU student
- Be currently enrolled full- or part-time
- Be in good academic standing
- Demonstrate extraordinary commitment to activism, advocacy, and/or community service benefiting the LGBTQ+ community

Purpose
The LGBTQ+ Initiatives Planning Committee strives to support, celebrate, and uplift LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Lamar University by providing programs, events, resources, and more in partnership with departments and organizations across campus.
