Dear LU Community

A pandemic will not stop our tradition of hosting Convocation and the Provost Kick Off. These events will look a bit different than previous years (and smell like hand sanitizer) and I encourage you to participate one way or another.

Convocation will be this Tues. Aug. 11 at 9 a.m. at the Montagne Center and also virtually at lamar.edu/live or on our Facebook or YouTube channel. During Convocation I look forward to updating you about nearly every aspect of LU from planning and construction to technology, facilities, residence halls, athletics and, of course, academics. We’ve made tremendous progress in research, which I’ll share, and our graduation and retention rates have increased to numbers of which we can all be proud. Please check your email for your invite and R.S.V.P. for accurate breakfast counts whether you are going to drive by and pick it up or attend in person.

The Provost Kick Off is scheduled this Wed., Aug. 12 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. Participants who register will be sent a link to join the kick off early next week. This year’s event will be a teaching and learning conference to provide you with practical tools and solutions that you can implement in your courses during the fall semester. Additionally, sessions are being offered to help combat racism and inequities in the classroom and online and about how we can all enhance diversity and inclusion.  Click here for more information about the agenda, sessions and registration.

This fall brings challenges we’ve never faced, but I’m confident that collectively we’ll create a safe environment, provide quality curriculum in a variety of modalities and continue to strive to deliver the one-student-at-a-time experience.

With Cardinal Pride
Ken Evans
