Campus Update

LU Community,

Earlier this week, as many of you know, we removed a number from the website intended to represent individuals within our campus community who have tested positive for COVID-19. The tally, which began early in the spring, relied on self-reporting.

While I have no doubt that you, our staff and faculty, have notified the university when you’ve contracted the virus, the primary reason for this is to aid LU in providing notifications to those who may have been exposed to the virus and areas which may need additional cleaning. As we reopen our campus and students join our ranks once again both in remote and on-campus settings, we will continue taking precautions. To this end, we have created a form for students and a form for faculty and staff on the website to encourage self-reporting and aid in our response efforts.

As we approach the beginning of the fall semester and welcome many back to campus, our focus is on personal responsibility and maintaining a safe environment. A few of the many things we are incorporating, include:

  • combining physical distance strategies with face covering requirements for everyone on campus as well as campus visitors;
  • supplying cloth face masks several times this semester;
  • displaying signage explaining physical distancing practices such as one-way entrances/exits, elevator limitations;
  • reconfiguring classrooms and common areas in order to accommodate social distancing as well as repurposed larger spaces to accommodate classes;
  • enhancing cleaning procedures and are continuing to hold gatherings, meetings and events virtually;
  • and offering flexibility in instruction – online, face-to-face or a hybrid - combined with recommended safety practices, to further reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

We are all looking forward to welcoming students on Tuesday next week. Thank you for everything you do.
