Campus Update

Issued: Friday, July 31, 2020
Time: 3:00 p.m.

LU Community,

As August begins, we continue to manage our way through uncertain times. However, with a commitment to educate, a priority on health and well-being and a reliance on innovation and technology, we will have a successful fall semester.

LU will offer online, in person or hybrid courses. Fall schedules have now been finalized and are available for students to view.  I’m proud to say that enrollment is as solid as our commitment to educate.

The health and well-being of our campus community is paramount. We are preparing safety signage to encourage social distancing and other protocols. LU branded masks and small hand sanitizers will be passed out to everyone on campus as well. Our safety efforts will be ongoing and, although, these healthy practices seem awkward, they will become routine.

The innovation and technology that has allowed us to connect during these months of distance will continue to be the mainstay of our future success. The technology and innovation of this campus community has ensured teaching continuity, music to engineering. It’s also allowed us to hold commencements and engineering summer camps, as well as significant meetings and town hall discussions. While no doubt we all look forward to mask-less, face-to-face classrooms and large celebratory graduation ceremonies, we are moving forward the best way possible during this time.

Moving forward in August means convocation, which we’ll host on August 11 in person, but socially distanced, at the Montagne Center and broadcast for live streaming, if you so choose.

I encourage you to go to lamar.edu/return with any questions you may have. There you'll find more information on timely topics surrounding our return to classes and campus this fall. New information is being continually added to this community tool so check regularly for the latest updates.

With Cardinal Pride,
