College of Education and Human Development

The College of Education and Human Development provides quality education to a diverse student population from Southeast Texas and beyond, resulting in education and human service professionals prepared to meet the challenges of a dynamic global environment while upholding ethical values and encouraging civic and social responsibility. Faculty are committed to an environment supportive of collaborative and application-oriented learning by engaging in a balance of discipline and practice-based knowledge and skills, helping graduates achieve academic excellence and a pattern of lifelong learning.

Preparing prospective career educators is and has been an essential mission of the university and the college since its establishment in 1959. More recent offerings representing diversification and growth of the College of Education and Human Development are hospitality administration, fashion merchandising, health, exercise science, and fitness management.

Graduate programs, degrees and certification programs are described in separate departmental sections of this catalog. Lamar University reserves the right to modify degree requirements and teaching certificate requirements in keeping with legislative acts and rules established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Texas Education Agency.

The College is composed of five departments: Counseling, Teacher Education, Educational Leadership, Health and Kinesiology, and Nutrition, Hospitality and Human Services. The Division of Professional Services includes admissions, advisement, assessment, TExES testing, and certification.
