The bachelor’s degree program in speech and hearing sciences, which prepares students for graduate specialization in Audiology or Speech-Language Pathology, requires each student to complete a required departmental core and advanced classes for the student’s specific career interests for a total of 42 hours.

Students may declare the major of Speech and Hearing Sciences after they are admitted to the university and complete the majority of pre-admission courses by the end of the spring semester sophomore year. These courses are the core curriculum required by Lamar University for all undergraduate programs as well SPHS 1371 Introduction to Speech Language Disorders and SPHS 2370 Phonetics and 2 professional electives. Students must achieve a minimum grade of “C” in all preadmission courses, with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 in SPHS 1371 Introduction to Speech Language Disorders and SPHS 2370 Phonetics. An overall GPA of 2.5 is required for admission into the program. An overall GPA of 2.5 is required to maintain enrollment in the major.
