How to register for the HESI

In order to take the HESI exam, you must create an Evolve account. You will need a username and password to take the exam. If you do not create an account before your test date, you will not be able to sit for this exam.

Tuesday - Friday
8:00 am to 12:00 pm

What to Bring on Test Day

You will need a valid (non-expired) photo ID.
Examples: Driver’s License, State ID, Passport, Military ID, School ID.
Calculators will be provided on the computer. All examinees must have social security number at the time of the exam.

When do I take HESI?

For Fall admission: testing dates are from October 1st to February 15th
For Spring admission: testing dates are from May 1st to August 15th
Seating is limited!

What Sections do I Take?

BSN – Reading Comprehension*, Vocabulary & General Knowledge, Grammar, Basic Math Skills, Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry

*Students will have until March 1st for Fall admission or September 1st for Spring admission to retake the Reading Comprehension section only.

How Long Will Testing Last?

BSN = 4 hours and 10 minutes


You will receive an unofficial copy of your score report upon completing your exam. All scores must be reported to the Nursing Department. Students are not allowed to cancel scores after completion of testing. The Testing Coordinator will bring the official scores to the Nursing Department.

Testing Accommodations

To request accommodations for the HESI because of a disability, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act of 1990 including the amendments of 2008, you must:

Make and appointment with the Director of Services for the Disability Resource Center (DRC) at least 2 weeks prior to to the test date to submit a copy of the accommodation request along with documentation of the disability to 409-880-8347 or drc@lamar.edu.  Please see the documentation guidelines at lamar.edu/disability-resource-center.  The DRC Director will review the document to determine if there are appropriate testing accommodations to be assigned based on how one's testing abilities are affected as indicated in the submitted document.  The Department of Career and Testing Services and the person requesting accommodations will be notified of any assigned testing accommodations prior to the test date.  No accommodations will be granted without documentation of disability being on file with the office of DRC.

Possible testing accommodations that must be requested at least four weeks prior to the test date are:

  • Sign Language Interpreter during testing instructions for individuals who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing
