Management Information Systems
Management Information Systems
What is Management Information Systems?
Management Information Systems (MIS) is the application of technology to solve business problems. An MIS professional will apply technology to integrate and support business functions such as accounting, finance, marketing, and management. MIS students gain a competitive edge as they learn how to analyze, design, develop and maintain information systems that support organizational functions, along with how to work with large amounts of data to provide valuable insights and solve business problems. We offer two tracks: Enterprise Systems and Business Analytics.
Enterprise Systems (ES) Track: Offered both on-campus and online, the ES track is specially positioned toward exposing students to Enterprise Systems (ES) thereby providing them a competitive edge in the global job market. Enterprise Systems allow businesses to achieve high performance through distinctive capabilities and is one of the fastest growing areas of Information Systems. The Enterprise System used in the program will be SAP – the world’s leading producer of business software. SAP has led all ES vendors with the most market share for the last several years. Today, more than 404,000 companies in more than 180 countries run SAP applications. SAP customers include 87% of the Forbes Global 2000 companies, 98% of the 100 most valued brands, and 100% of the Dow Jones top-scoring sustainability companies. Seventy-six percent of the world’s transaction revenue touches an SAP system. The SAP-enabled MIS courses increase the marketability and earning potential, as well as prepare students for SAP TS410 – Integrated Business Processes in SAP S/4HANA certification.
Business Analytics Track: The U.S. has one-third of the world's data. Nearly 90 percent of employers indicate that their data analytics need will increase in the future. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, data analyst jobs will see a 20% growth from 2018 to 2028, which is much faster than average. This promising job outlook is due to the increasing need for exploring and analyzing datasets to find hidden patterns, unseen trends, discover correlations, and derive valuable insights to make business predictions across a range of different industries such as Retail, Healthcare, Manufacturing. Banking, Logistics, Customer Service, and Supply Chain. While salary averages are constantly fluctuating, the average annual salary for data analysts in the United States is presently $70,033 per year. Some of the important tools needed to perform data analytics include Tableau, SAS, Oracle-SQL, Python, Advanced MS Excel, and R are taught in the program.
