The U.S. has one third of the worlds's data. Nearly 90 Percent of employers indicate that their data analytics need will increase in the future. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, data analyst jobs will see a 20% growth from 2018 to 2028, which is much faster than average.

This promising job outlook is due to the increasing need for exploring and analyzing datasets to find hidden patterns, unseen trends,discover correlations, and derive valuable insights to make business predictions across a range of different industries such as Retail, Healthcare, Manufacturing, banking, logistics,customer service, and supply chain.

While salary averages are constantly fluctuating, the average annual salary for data analysis in the united states is presently $70,033 per year. Some of the important tools needed to perform data analytics include Tableau,SAS, Oracle-SQL, Python,Advanced MS Excel,SAP-ERP, and R.

To give students and professionals the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and skills in data analytics, we will offer from Fall 2022, a five-course undergraduate certificate in Data Analytics. The Data Analytics certificate can make a student Career ready on day one by providing them hands-on experience in the most sought-after data analytics tools in the market.

Specifically, the objective of the certificate is to provide a clear and distinctive opportunity to students and professionals to enter a career as a Data Analyst. The certificate will be stackable to the BBA-MIS degree offered through the school of Accounting and Information System in the College of Business at Lamar University.

The project will be executed, and the certificate will be offered by fall semester( September), 2022.It will take 24 weeks to complete the certificate. The Courses are of the duration of 8 weeks.

The project goals are to provide eight data analytics courses from which the students can choose any five.

The following courses will be offered:

MISY 3300 (Database Foundations)

MISY 3321 (Spreadsheet for business Analytics)

MISY3330(Database Design)

MISY3341(Data Visualization)

MISY3350(Programming for Business Analytics)

MISY 3380(Database Programming)

MISY3390(Data Mining) and

MISY 4340(Business intelligence and analytics)

The data analytics tools that will be included are: Advanced Excel for Analytics, Tableau, and SAS for Data Visualization, Python, R and SQL for programming and data mining,SAP and Oracle for Database and Analytics.
