College of Business Dean - Named

After a thorough national search, President Kenneth Evans has named Dr. Dan W. French as the next dean of Lamar University’s College of Business. French, who has nearly 40 years of teaching, research and service will succeed Dr. Enrique Venta, who served Lamar University as dean since July of 2002.

French is a native of Beaumont and a 1973 graduate of Lamar University. He earned his doctorate from Louisiana Tech University and currently serves as the director of the Master of Science in Finance Program at the University of Missouri - Columbia while teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and doctorate levels. 

Before his current post at the University of Missouri, French taught at such institutions as New Mexico State University, Texas Christian University and Texas A&M. He is an active researcher, with interests in investment valuation, options markets, corporate governance and market micro-structure. His articles have been published in the Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial Services Research, Financial Review among others and he has authored five textbooks. He has extensive experience in Latin America and has taught seminars and courses in Ecuador, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela.

Lamar University will welcome Dr. French back to his alma mater, when he starts his role as dean of the College of Business on July 1, 2018.
