The Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Lamar University has been ranked in the top 100 out of 3,000 nursing schools. LU is ranked #47 in the Southwest region and #34 in Texas.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) and Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) degree programs at Lamar University have received continuing accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the commission announced recently.

Instructor tapped Jonas Nurse Leader Scholar by Vanderbilt

J.T. Seaman, an instructor in Lamar University’s JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing, has been named a Jonas Nurse Leader Scholar by the Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans Healthcare at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing.  He is one of 12 doctoral students to be named to the 2016-18 cohort of Jonas Nurse Scholars.

14th Annual Nightingale Experience Offers First-hand Nursing Opportunities

The 14th annual Nightingale Experience will be held on June 10-11, 2016. Forty-five high school students will visit Lamar University's JoAnne Gay Dishman Department of Nursing and CHRISTUS Hospital - St. Elizabeth to learn about the nursing profession. The Nightingale Experience is a two-day event for high school students who are interested in nursing as a career choice. 

Nursing Students Help Mend Memory with Music

Lamar University nursing students are helping implement the innovative Music and Memory project to enhance the quality of life of resident dementia patients through music. The work is part of a Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) grant to College Street Health Center in Beaumont, one of only 32 nursing homes in the state in the program.

Nursing Helps Community with Tobacco Education

Lamar University’s nursing department is helping its students get involved in the community by partnering with Julie Roger’s Gift of Life Tobacco Control Coalition Program to promote tobacco cessation and reduce the harm caused by tobacco in Southeast Texas. Renowned for its work in the region, Gift of Life provides educational outreach for various cancers, offers free mammograms and prostate cancer screenings with access to treatment for underserved Texans, and maintains a tobacco prevention program targeting both adults and children.

Lamar University among 60 Nursing Schools Selected for National White Coat Initiative

The Arnold P. Gold Foundation (APGF) and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) announced that Lamar University’s Jo Anne Gay Dishman Department of Nursing is one of 60 schools of nursing selected to receive funding support to host White Coat Ceremonies, which emphasize the importance of providing compassionate care among health professionals. Launched last year, the ground-breaking collaboration between the foundation and the association was developed to promote humanistic, patient-centered care among future generations of registered nurses.
