Historians Helping Heal from Harvey. The Fall 2017 semester got off to a late start thanks to Tropical Storm Harvey dumping several feet of rain on Southeast Texas, causing widespread flooding. We are proud to acknowledge the many different ways in which departmental faculty helped those in immediate need after the storm inundated the region. Historians stepped up to provide shelter in their own homes for displaced flood victims, to donate money and goods for distribution to those who lost everything, and, of course, to tend and care for the many furry friends affected by Harvey. Once school began, the department also conducted a school supply drive for the K-5 students at nearby Pietzsch-MacArthur Elementary School. Throughout Southeast Texas, our faculty made their presence felt amid the historic devastation.
