Research Description

Interdisciplinary geoscience research plays a fundamental role on elucidating the causal relationships between upper crustal deformation and surface processes. My research bridges the areas of structural geology, tectonics, stratigraphy, basin analysis and geo-thermochronology to provide a comprehensive understanding of the timescales and intricate feedbacks between deformation and basin evolution. I am particularly interested in understanding and quantifying mountain unroofing, uplift and evolution through the surface and basin record, as well as to identify the forcing factors modulating deformational styles, basin and strata architecture (e.g. climate, tectonics and eustasy).

My research aims to build more holistic source-to-sink models by highlighting the role of active deformation, unroofing, sediment sourcing and routing. Most of my projects will weigh heavily on conventional field techniques and laboratory work for geo-thermochronometric and isotopic analyses. They will be supplemented with numerical inverse and forward structural, basin and thermal models. Having a strong background on field geology, isotopic and compositional fingerprinting techniques, I believe that there is a broad spectrum of modern and ancient settings where improving ground truth and enhancing the chronological resolution would lead to a stronger understanding on the temporo-spatial scales in which source-to-sink processes operate in relation to surface and deep crustal cycles.
