Distance Advising

Advising is one of the most significant components of a student's successful college experience and the foundation of a good advising experience is a strong relationship between the advisor and the student. Students are encouraged to see their advisor in person because this is the best way for you to cultivate a relationship with your advisor.  For this reason, telephone or video conference appointments are approved only under specific circumstances.  Distance advising requires the student to be at a laptop or desktop computer with Internet access.

Requesting Distance Advising with your UAC Advisor

  1. Contact the Undergraduate Advising Center (409-880-8822 or advising@lamar.edu) to see if you are appointment ready and request a Distance Advising Authorization Form. This request is valid for only one distance advising session.  A new form must be completed for any future requests.
  2. The Distance Advising Authorization Form requires that you log in using your username and password for your Lamar email account. Once you have completed the online form, it will be sent to the UAC for processing.
  3. Please begin regularly checking your LU Email account. A representative from the UAC will contact you regarding your request within 2 to 3 business days to let you know if your request is approved.  If your request is approved, you will be emailed an advising campaign link which will allow you to schedule your own advising appointment.
