The State of Texas provides exemption and waiver options for veteran and active military students.


Any student who on or after August 1, 1990, was honorably discharged, retired, or released from active duty as a member of the armed forces of the United States or the Texas National Guard or service as a member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States is TSI exempt.  Submit a copy of your DD214-Member 4 form, displaying the CHARACTER OF SERVICE and SEPARATION CODE to

If Exempt Due to Service, Your Next Steps

  1. 24 hours after you submit documentation for an exemption or waiver, contact the Undergraduate Advising Center to confirm that your TSI status has been updated. 
  2. Check your Self-Service Banner account to ensure that we have received and evaluated your transcripts.

  3. Check your holds and address any that would prevent your advising session.
