Freshmen Admission Requirements

We are thrilled you are interested in Lamar University and we would love to have you part of the Cardinal family. LU is home to dozens of high-quality, world-renown programs that produce career-ready graduates. 

Are you considered an entering freshman?

  • High school graduate who has not attended college before
  • If you have received college credit while in high school through dual credit, AP or IB programs
  • Transfer students with less than 18 hours of college credit

Application Requirements

  1. Complete the online application through ApplyTexas.
  2. Submit or self-report your SAT/ACT test scores to LU from the testing agency. Use SAT Code 6360 or ACT Code 4114. Read our FAQs to learn how to self-report your scores.
  3. Submit your high school transcript:
    • Have your high school send electronically through Trex, Speedy or Escript
    • Mail to our Admissions Office – P.O. Box 10009, Beaumont TX 77710
    • Drop it off in-person 

Admission Requirements

  1. Receive your diploma from an accredited high school
  2. Complete at least 14 high school credits in college preparatory course: 4 in English, 3 in Mathematics, 2 in Lab Sciences, 2.5 in Social Sciences, and 2.5 in College Preparatory Electives
  3. Satisfy the requirements of the State of Texas Uniform Admissions Policy
  4. Graduate in the top 25% of their high school class or achieve a minimum composite score of the SAT or ACT (see below)

Individual Approval Admission Requirements

First-time applicants who do not meet the above requirements are considered on an Individual Approval basis. Students accepted through IA will have a variety of enrollment conditions intended to enhance opportunities for success at LU. IA guidelines will be explained when the student meets with their Academic Advisor during New Student Orientation.

After Applying

Applications can take 2-3 weeks to be processed. Once your application has been processed, we will send you an email notifying you of any updates. 

After processing is complete, you will receive an email including your Lamar University ID number "L Number" which you can use to check your admission status.

Memorize your L Number as it will be required during communication with LU. If any admissions documents are missing, you will receive an email alerting you for your convenience.
