Lamar University's Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a concentration in illustration prepares you for careers in commercial art, concept art, publishing and animation. This program has a strong focus building a professional portfolio and telling stories through your drawing. You will also develop technical proficiency in traditional and digital media (such as Photoshop), visual storytelling and business skills for freelance work.

Illustration I: A computer-based media course. The preparation and execution of graphic material for reproduction.
Character Art: A course focused on establishing entry-level skills in concept art and visual development used in character design in various fields of the entertainment industry. Art majors are required to follow the prescribed sequence of courses. The letter grade of "C" will be the minimum prerequisite grade accepted for continuing studio courses in sequence.
Professional Practices: A study of the practical aspects of the art profession with emphasis on health hazards, business procedures, and art law.
Late Modern and Contemporary Art: A survey of late modern and contemporary art practices.
Criticism and Theory in the Visual Arts: This course examines the major methodologies and theories that have shaped and continue to shape the fields of visual art and art history.
Obtaining a BFA with a concentration in illustration prepares you for diverse creative roles. Graduates typically work in publishing, advertising, animation and gaming industries, blending traditional art techniques with digital tools.
